With rezolvPS support, the leadership team gained a frank, shared understanding of the historical impact of the service.
The team built a new definition of the substantial strategic and operational contribution they wanted to make – a new vision for Denbighshire learners – and committed to make it happen.
They identified their strategic role, the key strategic outcomes for the future and the level of influence they needed to achieve it.
They identified the features of organisational culture and relationships which would foster a new level of delivery as leaders of education.
Background
Denbighshire Council Education Department had faced many challenges and was identified as “failing” in inspection in 2008. A new Strategic Director was appointed who wanted a tailor-made programme to transform the culture of his team and organisation – a breakthrough culture and approach that would build clarity across the service and raise substantially their impact.
Process
Using rezolvPS processes we enabled the Senior Leadership team to:
· engage with each other, jointly facing into realities of their historical performance;
· build a common understanding of high achievement focused upon children’s learning;
· build motivation to “make the breakthrough”;
· identify the key ingredients of a culture that “breaks through” to high achievement.
Strategic Director, Hywyn Williams:
“The training and ensuing actions paid real dividends. The positive, ambitious culture that developed paved the way towards an inspection report in 2012 where leadership was deemed 'excellent'.”
